What’s in your cup? Is it full or is it empty? What does it taste like? Is it sweet and fruitful or bitter and sour? Throughout scripture the cup functions as a metaphor for an individual’s life and fate. This can be either a positive or negative experience depending on the contents of the cup. In the Psalm 16 the author credits the Lord with assigning his portion and cup in life.” Or in Psalm 23 ...an abundant life is equated with an overflowing “cup.” In my own life experience for many years I filled my cup with worldliness and compromise. I disregarded God’s call for my life and lived a selfish and hedonistic life. I drank out of the cup and the contents left me empty, lost, alone and full of shame. I am so convinced now that if we take the time to inspect what we expect in life, it begins by looking in our cup. What are the indicators of what’s in the cup? How you spend your time, where your thoughts live, your worries, doubts, fears, etc. These are all good indicators of what’s in the cup. Each morning before work I try and sit quietly before the Lord, reading my Bible, praying and giving him permission to search my cup. Now why do I ask him to search my cup? Let me tell you why… I believe many believers rightfully fill their cup each day with burdens, concerns, worries, etc. of others as well as their own, and we need to be gently reminded that we are not supposed to carry these burdens around indefinitely. Friends we need to empty our cups before the Lord and allow him to refill them with his Living Water. Perhaps tonight you feel drained, exhausted, altogether worn out! What’s in the cup? Pour it out before the Lord tonight and ask Him to refill you. Think about this... Jesus transformed the cup of wrath that was set before us all into the cup of everlasting life by what he did for us on the cross at Calvary. Tonight let's allow him to take our cup and refill it to overflowing goodness and grace. Thanks for letting me share. Please listen to Quiet Moments Radio on Tunein or Live365 to hear more.
