Ever been in a line at the grocery store waiting and waiting for someone to count their change? They have a $200 check and they are paying with pennies! Or, ready to go somewhere and you are outside in the car and waiting...forever? My son Ryan and I inevitably find ourselves waiting for his mom and sister everywhere we go. We comfort each other. I say, "son, we both need to enjoy these times of waiting...because it's never going to change!" He reminds me of my own words when I get impatient. The fact is: none of us like to wait. What are you waiting on tonight? Maybe a callback? News about a job? An answer to a looming question? A breakthrough at work? Waiting can be so hard. We don't have any control. When we see the fruit or attributes of the Spirit, we are quick to remember the peace, the joy, the hope, the gentleness. What about the "long suffering?" Waiting to me is a perfect example of "long suffering!" It is an amazing quality. Ever heard of the patient JOB? How? By learning how to get out of our self, our own agenda and specifically our own timeline, and know that we are not in a vacuum--we have a Heavenly Father who is omnipresent--He isn't bound by time. So, when we find ourselves getting angry about having to wait (which we all have to do), let's pass the test, put a smile on our face, and ask the Holy Spirit to work through us! Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
