Can you see where you are heading?
Spatial disorientation, is the inability of a person to correctly determine his body position in space. In flying an aircraft it specifically has to do with a pilot becoming disoriented as been lost. Spatial disorientation is a condition in which an aircraft pilot's perception of direction does not agree with reality. Often the result of this disorientation leads to deadly outcomes. Tonight let's discuss a different disorientation that has similar characteristics and also a deadly end. I am calling it "Spiritual Disorientation." This is what I refer to as the inability of a person to correctly determine his spiritual condition! This person believes they are living a "good life" they recognize they are not perfect, but they keep trying to do well, and to be kind to others, this is how they go about "making the grade!" You see, they believe as long as they keep their nose clean, don't break any of the ten commandments and go to church once in awhile, that they are good, or at least adequate. In their analysis they incorrectly look and compare themselves with others to determine how they "measure up!" As a result they believe they are heading to a "glory" someday when they die . This is what I am calling spiritual disorientation! Why? Because this poor soul is lost, even duped and believe it or not heading to destruction! Friend, pilots lose the horizon in the midst of bad storms and need to read their instruments to avoid spacial disorientation. We need to read our Bible to make sure we understand where we are so we can stay on course! Want to know where you are right now without Jesus? The Bible is clear in Romans 3:23 --- For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Short answer- We have all sinned. We are all sinners, from the best of us down to the worst of us. Before the Holy God who created all things we are all morally guilty, because we cannot, on our own, live up to the Holy life God expects of us. Now that we know that, we know where we are heading in our own strength! So now we can stop the nosedive and get saved! Let's read Romans 5:8 --- But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Catch that? Even though we are sinners, guilty before a Holy God, God loves us very much, and has actively lavished His love upon us by sending his only Son, Christ Jesus, into this world to identify with us as a man, and to die in our place as payment for our sins! If you've never received the gift of everlasting life please pray this prayer tonight; "Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. Lord Jesus, I ask you to be my Savior, to forgive my sins, to cleans me by the power of your blood shed for me on the cross. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to come into my life and be the Lord of my life. My life is yours to direct. Dear Lord Jesus, I ask you to send your Holy Spirit to come live inside me to empower me to live for you and to teach me your will. I thank you for dying for me and saving me. I thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit and the guidance He will give to me. I thank you for adopting me as your son/daughter. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen."
